The recommendation for Tim, came through my son Richard, who had used him as a drummer in his own band years before. The reason he is a perfect fit is because he is an all rounder kind of drummer, just on the edge of swing! My show requires the whole rainbow. you can’t just bash, you have to ‘play’. Tim fits the bill.
My personal litmus test with Jez was on my last australian tour, ‘leather forever encore’, in 2017.
We did unplugged, piano and vocals only , the song, desperado. because it was live and the mood of the song flucuated depending on the audience, I would find myself twisting and turning, pausing in different places phrasing it differently every single night, and I never caught jez out, but i will keep trying. Jez is a sensitive player who feels the song.
I had no idea he could play so well, as he hid it for a long long time. when he finally ‘came out’
I got a shock, which turned into joy, which turned into creativity, which turned into song writing, which turned into 2 charting albums, which turned into him producing, which turned into starting this production company. who knew?!!!
He is a chip off the old block. definitly Len’s and my son. you can hear it in his playing you can hear it in the songs.
My first instrument was the bongo’s age 7, classical piano from 8 to 13, percussion in school band (first chair), self taught bassist from age 14,
One of 5 children who all play multiple instruments, daughter of small band leader and instrumentalist. music is in my DNA. I am an organic bass player, ‘not’ a failed guitarist. there is a difference. I write, sing and play songs, and still have that need and fire in my belly.
Dick and Ray go way back to the rumour horns, he is a vauable team player, adding layers of groove both live and in the studio.
Dick has also decided to step down from my live shows. his only mistake through all the years together, was to tell me that I waited to long to restart ‘your mama won’t like me’ after a frozen pause on stage… me being me, the pause was then forever.
Andy and I go back a long long way. he is a real ‘muso’, playing keys, and strings, and doing wonderful arrangements, especially on ‘the devil in me’ album, adding a lush layer of atmosphere to , ‘my heart and soul ( i need you home for xmas).
There is another project due out in 2023, (top secret), that Andy has also added his magic touch.
Will I ever be forgiven for missing his name out on the credits for ‘no control’… I don’t think so. if you like howlin wolf, you will love tim, who cut his teeth on him.
He added such atmosphere to both albums, and his my choice of harmonica players, done and dusted. Tim who?
